Answering 20 Questions

Since publishing my first two posts, I’ve realised I haven’t really told you, my readers, anything about me yet. So that’s why I’ve decided to answer 20 random questions I found online. Let’s go!

1. What was your favourite subject at school?

Technically I’m still in school, but I’m going to go with what my favourite subject was in secondary school: English. Something about this beautiful language has always intrigued me, and when I first started actually learning about it, it was like a whole new world opened up to me. The fact that I was good at it and always had good grades helped somewhat, too.

2. What is your favourite drink?

Well, if we’re talking non-alcoholic I’m going to have to go with the boring answer of “water”. It’s pretty much the only thing I drink, apart from the occasional delicious tea – which is basically just hot water with flavour, if you think about it. As far as alcoholic drinks go, I’m a sucker for a nice gin and tonic.

3. What is your favourite food?

One dish I absolutely love is the very Flemish concept of meatballs with cherries. I know, it probably sounds really strange to you, but you know what they say: don’t knock it til you try it! There is just something about this meal that I can’t get enough of. Fun fact: when I was younger, I hurt my foot and my older sister was the one taking care of me (my parents were on holiday) – for about a week, every night she asked me what I wanted for dinner, and every night she got the same answer: meatballs with cherries!

4. What is the last thing you bought?

A few weeks ago I bought some make-up for a very exciting little something that’s coming up soon… (Subscribe to my YouTube channel to get the scoop on Wednesday!) I can give you one hint: I had no idea what I was looking for, at all.

5. Favourite book of all time?

Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. I don’t understand why there are so many people that dislike this novel. It’s about a very passionate romance (over-the-top, even) and it’s just so intriguing. It gives an immensely interesting perspective on the human psyche, in my opinion, and it’s just a book that I will go back to time and again.

6. Favourite colour?

Unfortunately, my answer to this question is a pretty generic one; my favourite colour is blue. And I do mean every single shade of blue there is. Of course, there are shades that I like more than others… Do you know those beautiful summer days when there’s not a cloud in the sky and it’s just very bright and clear? That‘s my favourite kind of blue.

7. Do you have any pets?

I have 2 dogs, Max and Nohno. They’re both 10 years old, going on 11 this year, and I love them with all my heart. We got Nohno when she was still a young pupper, and I think it’s fair to say she chose us, haha. A few years later, we decided Nohno was getting a bit lonely all by herself, so we went and got Max from the shelter!

8. Favourite perfume?

I’m not really a perfume-person, but a scent I’ve been absolutely loving is The Body Shop’s Japanese Cherry Blossom. It’s super sweet and flowery. I think it’s really becoming my “signature scent”.

9. Favourite holiday?

If we’re talking seasonal-type holidays… Christmas is by far my favourite. I do think it’s more the build-up to Christmas that makes it so lovely, but I just love the cosiness of it all (and of course the Christmas songs, duh!). When we’re destination-type, my favourite holiday so far was when my boyfriend and I went to Gran Canaria in September. It was absolutely amazing; great weather and stunning views, what more could you ask for?

10. Are you married?

Not yet, but I am in a very happy relationship right now, so who knows what the future might bring…

11. Have you been out of the country? If so, how many times?

I have been out of the country more times than I care to count, haha. I guess that’s one of the perks of living on the European mainland – tons of countries are only a short trip away! To name just a few places I’ve been to: France, England, Ireland, The Netherlands, and Italy. I actually even studied in Naples for a few months in 2015 – 2016!

12. Do you speak any other language?

I speak Dutch, which is my native tongue. Of course I speak English, too. And I also speak Italian, a little bit of French and a tiny bit of German. I’m studying Applied Linguistics at the moment and am hoping to become a translator in the (near) future, so speaking other languages is kinda part of what I do, I guess.

13. How many siblings do you have?

I have 3 older sisters. They’re actually half-siblings, but that’s a label none of us ever really use. Especially me, since I grew up with all of them already around, I’ve never considered them anything else than simply my sisters.

14. When was the last time you cried?

A few days ago, when I sprayed the fragrance mist I mentioned earlier in my eye… I suggest you watch this video to get all the (hilarious) details. On a more serious note, I guess before that the last time I cried was when me and my boyfriend had a fight a while ago – but it’s all good now!

15. Favourite movie?

This is a tough one! I actually have 2 favourite movies and asking me to choose between them is like asking a mother to choose between her children (Sophie’s Choice, anyone?). So I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to give you 2 answers to this one: Dirty Dancing and Grease.

16. Favourite tv show?

Supernatural! That show is just the absolute best. 12 seasons and still going strong; not many tv shows can match that. Recently, they’ve even announced that the show is being renewed for season 13 and I couldn’t be more excited.

17. PC or Mac?

I currently have a PC, but I wouldn’t mind having a Mac tbh. I’d have to do a lot of saving up to be able to afford one, though, so I don’t see it happening any time soon (unfortunately).

18. What phone do you have?

A white iPhone SE. My iPhone 4S had died, and I loved the fact that the SE is similar in size and thus smaller than those other newer models Apple had brought out (shout out to people with small hands!) and it was actually cheaper as well.

19. How tall are you?

A better question would be: how short are you? I’m 1m54 or just a little under 5’1 – I’m tiny!

20. Can you cook?

I’m definitely not a top chef, but I can handle myself in the kitchen. As long as it’s a simple dish, I can manage. I’m super excited to start trying new recipes and getting better at cooking this year, though. Apart from cooking, I also really like to bake!
