The Liebster Award

The Liebster Award

I’m sorry for not putting up a blog post in a few weeks, but my life has gotten a lot more crazy since classes at uni started up again. At the end of February, beginning of March I took a week off deliberately (which I announced on my Twitter), but then that week turned into two, three… And now we’re here!

When I first started this blog and my YouTube channel, I had a lot more free time on my hands because I had two weeks off for Christmas Break. I did have exams in January that I obviously had to study for, but I only had three in total so I could definitely make time for my blog and channel. Now that classes have started up again (at the beginning of February), it’s been a lot harder to juggle it all and I’ve kinda been struggling with keeping up with my blogging and filming schedule… I do really enjoy it, though, so I’m going to try my best to keep posts and videos coming every week, but it’s possible that I won’t always succeed. So please bear with me as I try to figure it all out.

Anyway! Today’s post is a bit different from what I’d normally write, but I’ve been given an ~award~. You read that right! I was nominated by the lovely Samantha at the The Leg Up blog, and I am so so so grateful for this nomination. It really does mean the world to me. Especially since I’ve only just started blogging and being given this form of recognition is not something I expected to happen so soon! Make sure to check out her blog and her YouTube channel, on which she recently uploaded her first ever vlog.

I’ve seen a few different versions of this award circulate the blogosphere, but this is the version I was nominated for, so on with the award!

3. One Direction is and will probably forever be my favourite.
4. I’m almost 26, still at uni and will be until at least June 2018.

6. I’m also doing the 40 Days Without Meat challenge.
7. My favourite colour is powder blue.
8. I studied in Naples, Italy for five months.

MY ANSWERS

1. If money was no issue, where is the one place you would travel?

Probably the Maldives or somewhere equally as exotic. There’s just something about it that is so dreamy! Whenever I look at pictures or see someone’s vlog about their holiday in the Maldives, I can already imagine myself bathing in the clear blue ocean, drinking cocktails out of a coconut with my toes in the sand or going on a nice, romantic, moonlit walk along the coastline. I’d love to be able to get away to paradise for a couple of days and just forget about the rest of the world. Wouldn’t it be amazing to wake up to a stunning ocean view every morning?

2. Who would play you in the movie version of your life?

Because I couldn’t immediately think of an answer to this question, I resorted to a ‘Who woud play you in a movie about your life?’ quiz on Buzzfeed (I know, I know…) and my result was Abigail Breslin. To be completely honest, I had to look her up – her name did ring a bell, but I couldn’t really pinpoint where I knew her from. Turns out she plays Chanel #5 in Scream Queens! Turns out her birthday is also in April, she’s only 5 years younger than I am, and she is almost exactly as tall as me (kinda creepy, right!?)… So I guess she would be almost perfect to portray me in a movie about my life, but after some deliberation I think in an alternate universe I’d definitely prefer Jennifer Aniston.

3. What job did you want to have when you were a child?

I always wanted to be a veterinarian. Ever since I can remember, I’ve loved animals and loved their company. I was always that one kid that would go play with the dog at someone’s birthday party, haha. As I got older, though, I realised being a veterinarian wouldn’t really be the best job for me, since a love for animals is not nearly enough to succeed. I did consider studying Animal Care (to perhaps become a vet assistant) after I’d quit my teacher training back in 2012. Unfortunately, the course entailed way too many scientific classes and those were never my best subjects so I opted to study languages instead (way more up my street anyway!).

4. Do you see yourself blogging in five years, ten…?

I do! I realise it might sound a bit weird since I haven’t blogged in a couple of weeks, but I really do enjoy it. A lot. Obviously I started doing this because I thought it would be something I might like (along with filming videos as well), but I honestly never expected to love it this much. It does take a lot of effort, and recently that effort got a bit overwhelming alongside everything else going on in my life at the moment, but that amazing feeling when I’ve finished a blog post or a video that I’m proud of is something I don’t think I want to miss ever again. It’s going to take me some time to figure out a way to really incorporate content creating in my everyday schedule, but I want to make it work.

5. What’s one habit you wish you could kick?

Procrastination, definitely. I was doing so well at the beginning of this school year, but ever since the January exams I’ve been sliding down that slippery slope of instant gratification yet again… When given the choice of working on a uni assignment (of which the deadline is usually fast approaching) or doing something useless that I enjoy, I will almost always go for the latter. I’m still working on changing that, and some days are better than others, but it’s not as easy as it may seem. The bad days are definitely more common than the good ones, too. I do really want to get my Bachelor’s Degree, though, so I’m really trying to push myself to get my ass in gear again – before it’s too late.

6. Of the seven deadly sins, what would you say you have the most and why? (pride, covetousness, lust, anger, gluttony, envy and sloth)

This is a tough one. I feel like we maybe all have a little bit of each in us, but if I have to pick just one I’d say mine is sloth. If I could, I’d probably spend each and every day sitting behind my laptop, binge-watching tv shows and YouTube videos (which, to be honest, I do most of the time anyway, ha!). I just love being lazy and I love having lazy days, what can I say. I do sometimes wish I was more active and had more going on in my life, but then I think of the effort that would take me and I’m just like… Nah.

7. Who is your biggest inspiration for the blogging community?

Probably Zoë Sugg a.k.a. Zoella. I know nowadays she is mostly known for her YouTube channel, but she started out as a blogger and even though she doesn’t post on her blog that often anymore, I do love reading her posts when they appear. She’s such a positive influence and a highly succesful girl boss – I very much aspire to be like her one day. I also really love the look of her blog; very smooth and professional, with a cute and girly touch. I hope to be able to achieve such a well-defined look for my blog somewhere in the near future (when I’ve finally taken the plunge to buy my own domain!).

8. Instagram or Twitter for blog promotion?

Definitely Twitter! Instagram, to me, is filled with people who are just in it for the numbers… The amount of people who play the follow/unfollow game on Instagram is so much worse than on Twitter. I also often feel like people don’t even really look at whatever you’re posting and just like or comment to be noticed. I’ve made a lot more connections on Twitter than I have on Instagram. I also don’t really like the pressure of being expected to upload super fancy pictures daily – I just don’t have the time to go out and do stuff that is “Instagram-worthy” every single day! I think Twitter is a lot more laid-back in that aspect.

9. If you could live anywhere in the world for one year, where would it be?

L.A. I probably have a very cliché image of the place, but it seems like such a wonderful city to be a part of. I’m sure it must have its downsides, just like anywhere else in the world, but when I think of L.A. I think of palmtrees and sunshine, the beach and relaxation, open-mindedness and a laid-back attitude. What some people might say of New York City, I say of Los Angeles: anything’s possible. To me, it’s the place where dreams can come true and where you can just live your life uncensored, fully the way you want to. The only reason I think I wouldn’t want to live there permanently is that my friends and family would (almost literally) be worlds away.

10. Your favourite blog post you’ve ever written?

I think my New Year’s resolutions one. It’s the first one in which I really opened up about myself here on my blog and I just really enjoyed reflecting about my actions and the goals I wanted to set myself for 2017. It’s an honest post and I hope to be able to write more posts along the same lines in the future. I want this to be a place where I can share (nearly) anything about myself and that post was the first step in that direction. I also think it’s helped me to really try and work on my goals instead of just thinking about them once and then forgetting for the rest of the year – because now I’ve put them out there and really given them a lot of thought.

11. What made you start blogging?

Probably my love of writing, although I do have to admit that part of it is also tied in with me creating my YouTube channel. Some of the YouTubers I’ve looked up to the most (such as Zoella and Tanya Burr) also have a blog, and I just assumed it would be… Not expected of me, but convenient for me to start both a YouTube channel and a blog. I thought it would maybe help me get noticed by more people, by a wider audience and – although I’m not doing it for the numbers or the “fame” – I think everyone who starts a public platform wants to be seen. Otherwise you might as well write your thoughts in a diary you keep on your bedside table, or a private blog you never share with anyone else.

  1. This is such an interesting post and a great way to learn about bloggers on a more personal level. Thank you so much for the nomination! I also love One Direction and listen to them so often, think that I would mostly be a sloth and definitely wish that I could kick procrastination in the arse!
    Great read!

    • I always feel so embarassed when I have to admit that I love One Direction, and it’s always a relief when someone says “you know what, me too”, haha. Let’s try to prove to the world (and ourselves) that us sloths can take on procrastination and WIN!

Thank you so much for your lovely comment.
