With the days getting colder, and the nights getting dark so much quicker, it’s the perfect time to indulge in a cosy night in. I have to admit that it’s not something I do all too often, but when I do – I go all out. There’s no point in trying to do something half-assed, am I right? So today I thought I’d share with you what my perfect cosy night in looks like.
The first essential for a cosy night in, to me, are cosy pyjamas. There’s nothing better than getting out of the clothes you’ve been wearing all day (which, to be fair, are probably already quite comfortable in my case – I don’t leave the house very often) and getting into some warm, snuggly PJs. It just instantly puts you in the right mood for the rest of the evening, doesn’t it? Now, they don’t have to be, but you do get bonus points if they’re festive (says the girl who doesn’t own a single pair of festive pyjamas, ahum). That’s just a given this time of year.
Next up is ordering some delicious but probably unhealthy dinner, whether it be pizza or a good ol’ Chinese takeaway. Whatever you fancy, really! But I do find that a nice, greasy meal is the way to go when you feel like treating yourself. I mean, if there’s ever a time to not count calories – it’s December. Save going to the gym and eating healthier for those New Year’s resolutions. 😉
Once you’ve got that sorted and your delivery is on its way, it’s time to choose a few good films to watch. I feel like around this time of year, it’s probably a good idea to go for something Christmas-related – you know, to really get you in the festive spirit. I’ve listed some of my faves in yesterday’s post, so go check that out if you’re looking for some inspiration. However, if Christmas films aren’t really your thing, or you think it’s still a bit too early for them (well hello there, Mr Grinch), a nice romcom or two, three is always a safe bet. Unless you can’t stand those… Then I really don’t know what to tell you! I guess a horror film will do, too?
Okay, you’ve popped on a dvd and the delivery guy could be at your doorstep any minute now – time to dim the lights, put on some candles (if you’ve got scented ones, they’re definitely the ones I’d go for) and grab yourself a drink. Now, I don’t know about you, but I usually don’t order drinks with my takeaway. I find their options are quite limited and I’m not much of a fizzy drinks fan anyway. Unless, of course, we’re talking about prosecco or a nice glass of cava. Which is why, for my perfect cosy night in, I’ll pop open a bottle of one of the two (whichever’s in the house at that moment)! I mean, it’s a bit extra, but you are treating yourself after all.
Now that everything’s set up and your dinner’s been delivered, all that’s left to do is sit back, relax and enjoy your meal. If you’ve still got some room left afterwards, I like to indulge in a few chocolates and if I’m craving something extra cosy – I’ll add in a hot chocolate, too. It’s perfect to see you through your final film of the evening and get you in the right mood to go to bed.
Well, that’s my Saturday night sorted! I’m a wild one, I know. What do you like to do on a cosy night in? Let me know in the comments, and I’ll see you again tomorrow with a new Blogmas post.
