Blogmas Day 8: My Favourite Christmas Songs

Favourite Christmas Songs

Come December 1st, it’s always time to officially dust off your Christmas playlist on Spotify, and since everyone’s been dancing to their favourite festive tunes for about a week now (although in some cases probably a lot longer than that 😉) I thought I’d share some of my favourites with all of you. And you can bet your sweet lil’ ass that I’m listening to them as I type out this post… So, without further ado, here are my ten favourite Christmas songs:

1. All I Want For Christmas Is You – Mariah Carey
2. Everything – Michael Bublé
3. Feliz Navidad – Jose Feliciano
4. Baby, It’s Cold Outside – Chris Colfer & Darren Criss (Glee version)
5. Last Christmas – Wham! / Lea Michele & Cory Monteith (Glee version)
6. Let It Snow – Dean Martin
7. Do They Know It’s Christmas? – Band Aid (1984 / 2004 / 2014)
8. What Christmas Means To Me – Hanson
9. Winter Wonderland – Tony Bennett
10. Holly Jolly Christmas – Jerrod Niemann

11. My Only Wish (This Year) – Britney Spears

I mean… You can’t beat a bit of Mariah Carey in December. It’s a very cliché Christmas favourite, I know, but I honestly don’t care. Whenever I hear this song, it just instantly puts me in a festive mood and I know that when they’re playing this on the radio, it’s officially time to get excited for Christmas.

I know Michael Bublé’s Everything isn’t a Christmas song per se, but I remember listening to this almost non-stop around Christmas time when I was a teenage girl and whenever I hear it now, it just brings me back to those days. It’s just got a very festive feel to me – I always imagine snow landscapes and cosy nights in whenever I listen to it.

Some people might judge me for adding the Glee versions of two songs to this list, but these are simply the versions I love listening to most. I always love it when a TV show does festive episodes, and I do think that Glee kinda nailed it with these two songs – just saying. Confession time: I don’t think I’ve ever properly listened to the original version of Baby, It’s Cold Outside. Oops! I do love Wham!’s original version of Last Christmas, though, so at least there’s that.

If I remember correctly, I think there may have been some controversy around Do They Know It’s Christmas? (do correct me if I’m wrong, though), but I cannot listen to this song without feeling at least a little teary-eyed. It always reminds me that I have so much to be thankful for. And I have to also admit that I was very proud when One Direction was part of the renewed 2014 version. My babies are part of such an iconic song and it’s honestly just the best.

Ah, Hanson… Such nostalgia! I used to be one of their biggest fans when I was a little girl. My older sister actually listened to their music a lot, and it just grew on me until I was a bigger fangirl than she was. I remember listening to their first Christmas CD – Snowed In –  on repeat in the car, on my discman (that’s how old I am). I don’t think I’ll ever not listen to those songs during the Christmas period.

I actually found it quite hard to narrow it down to just ten favourites – I feel like this list could go on and on if I hadn’t limited myself, haha.  I mean, I still kinda cheated by adding that bonus song, but I really couldn’t help myself. Some of the songs also have two versions, but that doesn’t count. What songs will you be listening to throughout the rest of December? Let me know in the comments, and I’ll see you again tomorrow with a new post for Blogmas!
